Diver Reviews Diving Book
|
I have read a few separate books concerning both Richie Koller and John Chatterton and were reasonably impressed by their exploits and therefore started this with great anticipation.
As usual with so called "extreme sports" there is a bit of over emphasis on the drama and risks taken by the divers, but the research elements and the story telling is pretty good.
I notice there is now a "Shadow Divers Exposed" book which slates both Chatterton and Kohler, which is slightly unfair since they didnt write this book.
I want to believe this story and enjoyed reading the book, as well as believe the antics the two got up to on the Andrea Doria, however after watching them both on Discovery channel my view is now changed of these two. Cannot remember the exact title but it was something along the lines of "Mystery Shipwrecks". The specific episonde was Scapa Flow. Now any historian, war enthusiast or Diver knows what Scapa Flow is and how the wrecks got there, Richie and John tried to turn this into a Mystery, which was extremely unconvincing. Is this the same for other so called mystery wrecks or was the Scapa Flow commission just a wrong choice by them and their producers.
Still a good book, but I now view it with an extremely large pinch of salt.
