A good place to begin
|
I wish that I had read this little book a long time ago; and this really is a little book, only 14 x 11 cms, 138 pages. But its conciseness is very much to its credit. In this slim format Alvin Hall manages to give the lay man, or woman, a thorough and balanced introduction to the world of savings and investment. He tells you the best way to save money. And then he shows you the optimum way to make your savings grow, always carefully weighing risk against possible advantage. This is essential knowledge that all too few of us possess.
If you want to understand how the stock market works; if you don't know the difference between a gilt and a corporate bond, or a unit trust and an investment trust; if you don't know what a broker does or how to approach one, then this is where to find out. Alvin has a gift for making financial matters seem manageable, straightforward and sometimes even fun.
I was in an investment group for a year and really didn't understand what was going on. Having read this book, now I would. It is a primer. It is for beginners. But we all have to begin somewhere!
