Disappointing

Good in terms of coverage, but not so hot for beginners. Quite old-fashioned in design, the lack of imitated pronunctiation is a real drawback, and for serious learners there are far too few snippets of language to see the terms in context. Gaelic aso has lots of important wee phrases which admittedly don't fit well in a dictionary format, but more effort could have been made to display them properly. Still waiting for a really good modern Gaelic dictionary...

THE dictionary for learners
|
This dictionary is widely regarded as the best dictionary for learners -- and I agree. All the basic vocabulary is there, with a wide range of up-to-date technological terms thrown in for good measure. If you're learning the language, then you should have this on your bookshelf.

I found, when revising for my gaelic exam, that this book was very easy to use and refer to helping me pass my course. Also the definitons of the words were good explaining th words well. i now even bring this book on holiday with me to use it when i want to find out the meaning of certain scottish places like Clatach Carinish. It's a simply must by book for Gaelic speakers!
