Customer Reviews:
Not recommended
I have bought two other language books in the 'teach yourself' line and this is BY FAR the worst.

I have been learning frantically for the last 10 weeks (i got offered a job in spain) using a variety of books, tapes, one-on-one tutorage and this book/cd set. Compared to all the other things I have tried this book is horribly structured. You are introduced to things without a clear understanding of it, the recordings aren't great as the speakers often don't pronounce the lines exactly as they are written in the book and, for me at least, they speak to fast for a beginner.

Maybe it would work for you if have experience already, but for someone with no spanish skills at all (like myself) I would seriously avoid this like the plague. I found books on Cantonese that progressed me quicker through the language than this.
Really helpful Spanish course
I bought this book with very little previous knowledge of Spanish, but I found it instantly accessible. It does expect you to revise by yourself and go over the things you have already learned; unlike some quick fix spanish courses, it does not reinforce everything ten times over. You have to be committed to learning the language, but if you are, it is incredibly helpful. You can go as fast or as slow as you like, and all the tools are there for you to get a really sound knowledge of the language - spanish-english dictionary, english-spanish dictionary, grammar set out neatly and clearly with all verbs and tenses explained, a variety of accents on the audio. It is very good value for money and I would thoroughly recommend it.
Disappointing
I bought this with high hopes, but it's very disappointing. It's nowhere near as good as Instant Spanish published by the same company and written by Elisabeth Smith. Using that course I was 'holiday fluent' in just six weeks, and so inspired to learn more that I bought this course.

You are introduced to new nouns, verbs etc but to find out what most of them mean you have to keep looking them up in the back of the book. There's no structured learning. You plod your way through exercises that don't build on the previous ones and you don't get any sense of progress. It's frustrating and slow and I'm already planning to give this to the charity shop and looking for a good alternative course to get me to GCSE standard.

easy spanish
I was learning spanish for fun and this guide made it fun!!
Best introduction I've seen
I agree with the first reviewer. I considered a number of books and this was the best I've found. It's easy to use, fun, and it works. Make sure you get the CD (or tapes) as well, though.
