Unbelievably awful
|
I have struggled through this book hoping it will improve with every turn of the page, sadly that didn't happen. Someone, I'm not sure who, is shot somewhere which which requires opening his jacket and lifting his vest "of which he was thankfully wearing only one" when he reaches the hospital the doctor is told he accidentally shot himself in the thigh. Novel idea, wearing a jacket and vest on your thigh. Just one example of the endless nonsense Colin Forbes commits to paper. We are informed repeatedly that the Sunday Mirror stated that he has no equal, but in what context? Hopefully no equal as a terrible author. We must be thankful for such mercies. The single star is there only because there is nothing less available.

..I felt that I had to state the following. If you like a book which is entertaining and does not take too much thought about all the different characters which appear as in some books and a plot which is also not too deep then this book is ideal. This is the first Forbes book that I have read as I usually read Tom Clancy, although Forbes style of writing is totally different to Clancys' I would still gladly read another Forbes book. Which is why I am on this site in the first place to see which is the next book in the Tweed, Grey, etc. series. I enjoyed it so give it a go.

more of the same old, same old

Forbes heroes and heroine return and go through the motions again, same plot, same backdrop(central europe and the west country), same megalomaniac bad guy and hench men, (only the names have been changed as an attempt to show originallity), same hotels, bistros rushing around, eating drinking and staying calm when others panic. Yep. its classic forbes! despite its lack of originallity, Tweed,Newman Paula et all embark on a fairly enjoyable little adventure to save the world, again. If you dont mind a case of deja vu, then enjoy it for what it is; a tongue in cheek thriller, reminiscent of 1960's tv series The Avengers.
