An excellent book

This really is an excellent all-round guide to using CS3 for the digital photographer.
If you need someone to show you how to get the sort of effects normally seen in professional publications, then this is the book for you.
I've found it to be incredibly useful indeed.

Lets get one thing clear, I do not leave comments on any books through Amazon or any other shopping site, unless a book comes along that genuinely deserves all 5 stars. As far as books go, this is the most informative, clear and easy to follow book that I have ever read. Oh and no, I'm not on commission from Mr Kelby (Chance would be a nice thing). I fully agree with the comments of Glyn Dewis, plus you have to understand that Kelby has a 'funny' side that mostly comes across in the book. One tip, don't just use it as reference material, firstly go through the book from the first page to the last in order, and do everything Kelby says on your photoshop CS3. Then and only then use it as reference. You too will then come onto this site and add the comments, Mr Reddick was right! Enjoy. I did.

I first stumbled across Scott Kelby books by chance being a complete novice with photoshop. At first and with the help of Scotts books, i was able to produce amazing photos. He has now given me so much help and confedince as well as ideas through his books to edited my website with truly stunning effects and done so quickly. I first started with his down and dirty tricks book and now have just bought this book as i have now upgraded to CS3. he makes it just so straight forward to learn new techniques quickly and easily. If you, like me are a non professional this book will help and show you all the cool tricks you need to know to impress your friend! HE GIVES YOU THE THIRST FOR MORE KNOWLEDGE WITH PHOTOSHOP!

Excellent book for up coming amateurs to semi pro

I am new to photoshop by about 3 months to be exact. I did some practice sessions in a course and saw the instructor using this book. So I thought, why not buy it ? I've had no regrets so far. This book has all the techniques, to have your work coming out like a pro !! Definately a must have to add to your collection. Go get it, NOW !!!!!

Real world book, real worl author

I like the personal touch. I like someone who is fairly self depreciating, and can poke fun at himself and tohers, and I like the thought that someone is not teaching me, but a friend is sort of guiding me.
It is because of this that I like Scott Kelby's humour within his books. Maybe the target audiance are amateur photographers rather than the professional "this is my job so I'm being strict about everything" photographer. It really doesn't matter as this book is simply so good.
The walk-throughs and lessons are short and simple to understand, and where possible, alternative ways to achieve the same results are also discussed.
A bonus for those who buy the book is the access to a support website which contains additional chapters from earlier books which have been dropped.
Many "how-to" books can be heavy going. This one has all the content, but an easy going style. Simply excellent!
