Keeps getting better

I have several works on computer graphics - as well as Google! Initially, I would have rated this book as 'OK'. But the more work I do on computer graphics, the more I find myself turning to this book. It seems to provide the best, simplest and most relevant explanations or algorithms across a very wide range of graphics problems. No library should be without a copy.

Excellent Reference Material
This book was a required text in a graphics programming course that I did as a part of a Computer Science degree. As an academic text this provides an excellent reference that shall enrich the library of any serious programmer. If you want to learn how to write Quake using VB, dont bother as this will probably scare you off. If on the other hand, you want to understand the underlying concepts of modern graphics systems or are after a definitive reference then this is what you want.

The Bible

This is a book you can't do without if you're serious. It isn't a 'For Dummies' book, and the content can be almost intractable at points, but this is not an easy subject. Particularly useful if you're trying to design your own algorithms, and an excellent springboard for research. Specialists in some areas will find the book a good reminder of basic principles, and people intent on reworking the Quake engine in their own image (pardon the pun) will find enough here to keep them busy. Not for the casual web-designer. Or then again, maybe it is.

Comprehensive but long-winded and a little benhind the time
I know this is THE book in computer graphics but it really acts more as a comprehensive glossary. There is far more principle than practice and little implementation help. Often it doesn't present the information succinctly or in enough depth. Definately a good overall reference but look elsewhere for more in depth and practical/coding advice. A valid addition to most peoples bookshelf but now starting to show it's age.

Big, bloated, and boring
Guess what? I DID understand all of the math/theory in this book and I still thought it wasn't very good. Foley's explanantions of even the easiest concepts are lengthy and confusing--a bane for anyone using this book as either an introductory computer graphics text or as a reference. Nice try though.
