Another wonderful book, letting the viewer see the world through the eyes of a little girl, living on a Scottish Island. My two girls and I love to share her experiences. Throughout this series, Katies world is presented in an idyllic fashion, but not without the realities of living on an Island. We begin to understands that she too must face the realities of life, and we can learn from the way she handles her situation. The spirited illustrations provide lots of stimulation for conversations, and the reappearance of the characters throughout the series provide and opportunity for older children to plot what might happen next. The characters of the big boy cousins are very realistic and references could probably be made within your own extended families, giving the reader another avenue for group discussion.
