The Best of the Best

Five years of a cruel and wickedly funny insite into American politics, small town America and the loneliness of being a svelt, buoyant waterfowl in the 21st century! You'll laugh, you'll cry: you'll find yourself going Ack! for no apparant reason. This was possibly the funniest cartoon series ever written. And the amazing thing is it has depth. You can laugh at the imagery but you can gain a lot more by reading between the lines and understanding the sub-text. Berk Breathed is a genius and there was definitely a tear in the eye when it was time to say goodbye to Bill & Opus.

A Compendium of Pure Laughter

Spanning the very innocent beginings of the Berkely Breathed Bloom County strip this book covers five years of fun and antics culminating in the kidnapping of Opus the Penquin and Cutter John (The Vietnam Vet) by the Russians. A truely superb book which deals with teenage innocence, Reganomics through to Watergate (Girdlegate in this case). I think Breathed has evolved into one of the great 'Strippers' of his time and his strips are sorely missed... at least you'll have this to cuddle up to on a cold night.

Hilariously observed - an American Steve Bell's 'IF'
|
|
We are all in this tome. I am the penguin, I know a Steve Dallas, a Portnoy, a Lola Granola..... Read it and learn about America through the eyes of a taste-challenged penguin, a bedwetting dip and other immortal characters. It's Garfield with teeth and Doonesbury with humour. In short it's an American version of Steve Bell's 'IF'. Buy it NOW.

The first 5 years of bloom county cartoon strip. Hilarious, incisive, moving. Just what happens in the world of a tv-addicted penguin refugee...?
