preconceptions smashed

I just knew he had some crazy meditation techniques, was a bit of a rogue, had 93 rolls royces, accepted sex and i had a few friends who recommended him. Wow, blown away, this is one of the most beautiful books i've ever read! Osho's integrity shines through and yes he is a dangerous man because he's not concerned about beliefs but the truth. And he challenges you deeply, i was a buddhist monk for 3 years and he takes traditions apart 'Buddha wasn't a buddhist' what a one liner. Many buddhist books seem to take a mathematical approach to enlightenment, Osho is a poet. I just cried reading this book, with laughter and joy and hope, i even found myself clapping and shouting 'Yes yes yes!' Sheer delight. I'm hooked.

Mostly egocentric drivel passing for 'enlightenment'

This seems to have been one book of Osho's (formerly known as Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh before an apparent 'rebranding') that has been particularly hyped in recent years. It's hard to see who might benefit from it. The subject's colossal ego is evident throughout. Much of the first half is taken up with extracts from talks in which Osho (or Bhagwan, or whatever) relates how virtually every teacher he ever met was convinced of his genius, yet the 'insights' he gives us throughout the work don't seem to amount to anything at all. He needs Rolls Royces to communicate with America. He spends three hours a day in the bathroom. He can't drive worth a damn so his followers have to build a special road for him, etc, etc. I mean, at least Gurdjieff manages to be FUNNY in 'Meetings With Remarkable Men'! Osho fails to raise so much as a smile throughout these turgid, boring, pieces.
I give it two stars for its curioisity value. It's also nicely presented and feels good in the hand. It's tough on the brain, though, and I gave up half-way through. Guess it wasn't meant for the likes of me. Although Osho would no doubt tell me - if he was still with us - that I need to 'wake up', a soporific read like this one isn't going to do the trick. Save your money.

Osho's unique upbringing and point of view revealed honestly

Where everyone else says No, Osho, formerly Bagwhan Shree Rajneesh, says Yes. He encourages us to open our minds and open our hearts to discover fullness in everything we do.
