Customer Reviews:
If chins could kill...they would do it by boring you to death!
I was looking forward to this book but it didn't live up to my expectations. After seeing so many good reviews I was expecting a genuinely funny and quirky book full of all the exciting things that Bruce has gotten up to throughout his career. However, it trundles along at a slow pace from one flat anecdote to another, and I found it a struggle to stay interested. I read it through to the end but it wasn't very rewarding and I would much rather spend my time watching one of Bruce's films. If you are a die-hard fan then give it a go, but if you enjoy reading books then this probably isn't for you.
Groovy
Only half way through but a fantastic insight into small budget film making Bruce Campbell is a Genuine funny, Class A Shemp!!!!
if chins could kill, well split my rib cage anyway
If chins could kill is the single most endearing autobiography I have read. It is a breath of fresh air to read about his life and tales without having all that political "A" list drivvel forced on you. Bruce recalls his life and story in such a genuine way that you feel he could in fact be one of your mates. You just end up wishing Bruce all the fortune that "A" list actors get, amazingly Bruce is not bitter, he just enjoys doing what he does best, entertaining schmucks like us. In a word the book is "groovy". Now where are those evil dead films again?
Even if you have never heard of Bruce Campbell buy this book
This is a phenomenal insight into the struggles and successes of a hollywood actor. Bruce Campbell is not some self absorbed movie star who foolishly beleives their own hype, he is a normal down to earth Joe who is just trying to make a living doing his job.

In this book he recounts his many and varied experiences both in front of and behind the camera in TV and Film.

For the Deadites amongst us (I count myself among them) the insights into the making of our favourite trilogy are fantastic. The book covers a lot of what the cast and crew went through to make the first evil dead from raising enough money to get started to having a lot of the actors leave for other commitments half way through filming and back to having to raise money again after running out.

For those who are fans from other films or his TV appearances in shows such as Hercules, Xena or his staring role in Brisco County Jr he recounts tales from these periods too.

Perhaps the best thing about this book is that it is not some interchangable cookie cutter a list hollywood star name dropping who they go to parties with or recounting their troubles with various drug dependancies or their tortured childhood that led them too drugs in the first place, it is a normal person talking of what he has done and of the experiences he has had. The book is upbeat and Bruce comes across as a very likable easy going guy who has no concept of arrogance or self importance.

I would recommend this to anyone be they Fans of Bruce already (if not you will be after reading this) or if they are merely sick of reading autobiographies of superstars that are all the same.
Entertaining look at the real B-movie life
Anyone at all interested in Bruce Campbell and the whole B-movie schtick needs to read this book. It's an entertaining read detailing the exploits of the man whom you'd think would be a lot richer and more famous than he actually appears to be. It details his life right from his early exploits and goes about as far as Bubba-Hotep, listing the ups and downs of the lower rent end of Hollywood. This man met Doug McClure, for heavens sake! It's no Lord of the Rings, but it's a must for B-movie fans everywhere and Bruce fans in particular. Score one for the nice guy doing his best in a tough world.
