A very refreshing "how to" guide
|
Thank goodness for this book. This is a totally real, down-to-earth, easy to relate to, honest and entertaining account of how one couple turned their sex lives around. It's inspiring, and it's extremely refreshing to be inspired on this topic by ordinary people, who don't claim to be "sexperts", or come across as "kinkier than thou".
It takes Doug and Annie Brown a bit of planning and a lot of determination to honour their initial goal of 100 straight days of sex - what with child-care, work commitments, illness and sheer exhaustion butting in occasionally - but what they end up with is well worth the journey.
This book is for any couple who have reached a certain point in their marriage where they're thinking "is this it?", where evenings revolve around getting the kids to bed and curling up in front of the TV til sleep takes over. It is a book that somehow makes it OK to be honest about what you want from sex, without constant over-earnest exhortations about the importance of "communicating and telling each other what pleases you". It's all done very light-heartedly, in the spirit of a giggle, which makes it much more palatable and accessible, and much less likely to leave a sense of failure in its wake.
Only 4 stars because it isn't great literature, and Douglas Brown's style is a little awry at times, but nevertheless this is a great inspirational book for anyone married a bunch of years, but who still don't consider themselves "past it", to spice up their love life!!
