An excellent overview of the major campaigns fought by the British Army and Commonwealth/ Empire forces during World War Two. This book shows how British Forces played a full part in all the decisive campaigns of the war outside Russia (just in case you thought it really was the Americans who won the war). Also I learned some things I didn't know before - for example, that U.S. General Mark Clark ordered his troops to prevent British advance by force if neccessary in order to make sure US troops entered Rome first. I was also interested in the Appendix on British Divisions, until I found that there is at least one mistake in it - Fraser says that 56th Division was sent to India in 1942 and yet I knew that my Grandfather was in 56th Division and spent most of his war in Italy. Sure enough, Fraser describes 56th Division's major actions in Italy, confirming my grandfathers accounts of Monte Camino amongst other actions. This error somewhat spoilt the appendix, but takes nothing away from the excellent account of the campaigns.
