Dreadfully Derivatve and Studiously Boring

How utterly tired of life and drained of inspiration must Kevin Sampson have been to get beyond the first 400 words of this desperate nonsense ? Sampson's gloomily infantile frustration at supporting a club who's halcyon days are far behind them is one thing, why does he feel moved to compound this by producing a book which is just depressing and frustrating because it's so God-awful ? Liverpool's "entitlement" to success, the sole basis for the disappointment he records here, and their inability to play either attractive or succesful football also indicates just why it is MUFC supporters hate LFC and their supporters - they are humourless uppity bad losers who are riddled with guilt about Heysel. This is dreary stuff about a hackneyed subject written in an unfunny, contrived and unreal fashion. But it's actually worse than all that - it makes one feel embarassed to be a football supporter at all and emphasises the worst about today's post-adolescent english male - childish, unimaginative, anti-intelligent and anal. For God's sake stop writing about football in such a cliched and tedious manner. Thoroughly abysmal book.

Extra Time manages to perfectly describe the whole range of emotions that a Liverpool fan goes through during a season. You can't put this book down with great humour and attention to detail which make it the best footy book about the fans I've read in ages.

This book can be described as nothing less than essential reading for any Liverpool fan. It may also be of interest to any football fan across the globe. This book follows the trials and tribulations of a Liverpool fan who attends games both home and away, showing the mixed emotions associated with supporting one of Englands most under performing teams. After picking it up there can possibly be no Liverpool fan that I know that has been able to put it down prior to completion. Highlights of the book include Steve McManaman's magic goal away to Celtic in Europe and the ensuing attempt to join Steve for the celebration! Notable moments also include playing for Ian Rush in a charity match and a weekend stag-do in Amsterdam. Thoroughly enjoyable, cheers Mr Sampson!!!
