Customer Reviews:
a good course, easy to use
I m sorry to go against some other coments about that ancient Greek course, but I have to say that I have enjoyed working on Athenaze a lot. I m currently studying Attic Greek, and do use this course along with the "reading Greek" course from CUP.
Athenaze does take things easy, gently, the grammar is very well explained, the exercises are easy and there s a good choice, and the textbook is interresting to use..

Even without a teacher, i would recommend that course for self study, as it is really clearly organised and does make the study of ancient Greek very easy, and interresting
Alright but could be better
I took up Greek for GCSE and we have been using this book in the classroom. The stories and characters are fun but some of the grammar is very confusing and the long explanations are sometimes hard to follow.

With a teacher there to help with any probvlems this book is quite good but if you are planning to teach yourself the language using this book it might be too hard.

I think Cambridge are coming out with a better book so I recomend you look for that instead.

I hope you get something because Ancient Greek is a wicked language to know!

Not the best...
I got this book, as i wanted to be able to read the classics in the original. In some respects it is good;from the beginning you can read stories in greek , some of which, based on Homer and stuff are interesting, others not so. But it is satisfying to be able to read greek prose, not matter how basic it may be.
However, although it does present relative things like noun cases and so on, it doesnt really present them in an overly easy to understand manner. Plus, it moves quite slowly, so for most of the book, you are only reading things in the present tense, which annoys me. Its a two part book, so to continue the course you have to buy another book(obviously), which is also annoying. In short its OK, but I would recommend, for a cheap and fast introduction to greek, Peter Jones' book, as it presents examples from authors such as Sophocles and Plato, and explains things very well.
