Good, but with thematic gaps
My opinion about this book is somewhat mixed. On one hand, the coloured illustrations are mostly excellent and lucid, and many topics are covered thoroughly - e.g. the human body, housing and household items, technics (at least in parts), sports. (Even e.g. the inner structure of a water closet is revealed.) However, on the other hand, some subjects are not dealt with as extensively, and some lack entirely - as, for example, hunting, forestry and commercial fishing.

Amongst the most amazing resources I own!

I had been looking for a decent visual dictionary for some time though I didn't know that one existed that was so clear, comprehensive and interesting to read through! The illustrations are all of an excellent quality and the layout of the book is very easy to read. This is a truely incredible resource for a language learner and I believe it's a must have for anyone who's in need of a few more nouns. Great book. Absolutely!

A wonderfully compact and beautiful dictionary
I had already seen this dictionary in a library, but this Oxford edition is of perfect size and very compact. Illustrations are great! One benefit with respect to photo dictionaries is the uniformity of style and the beauty of illustrations. This is more than a dictionary, as one can learn enormously from the pictures. Almost anything of what you can think about is illustrated in detail. Another interesting aspect is the fact that the dictionary is in four languages (English, French, German and Spanish), and it gives also the gender for nouns. The index is very practical for use too. I hope that later a more global visual encyclopedia will be furnished by this team, covering in greater depth all aspects. But surely such a work would not be as easy to handle as this wonderfully compact dictionary!
