an excellent introduction to molecular symmetry
|
|
This book is essential for undergraduates being introduced to molecularsymmetry. It gives excellent illustrations of molecules and theirsymmetry elements and a good account of the underlying mathematicalprinciples behind the problem solving, such as the matrices and charactertables. The book also shows the association of symmetry with chemicalbonding and spectroscopy without too much mathematics, which is usually abenefit for most undergraduate chemists. It has practice questions andanswers. However it does lack illustrations and solutions of morecomplicated examples and spends a lot of text on simpler molecules such aswater.
