What a brilliant read. This meticulously researched book weaves together the stories of the botanist adventurers of the 18th and 19th centuries to provide an extraordinary insight into their minds and motivations. The book flowed seamlessly from one story to the next, and provided the right balance between historical accuracy and a damn fine yarn. I was hooked from page one, and would recommend this book as an excellent starting point for anyone interested in gardening history.

I loved the quirky people. Their obsessions and energies led to our gardens being what they are today. Amazing.

Flower Hunters

I bought this book for my mother's birthday because of her love of flowers, gardening, reading and history. (Not to mention the beautiful cover and hardback format made a great presentation for the gift basket.) After she read it, she lent it to me to read because she enjoyed it so much. This lively book details the travels of many of the most esteemed botanists up to modern times. The lively prose allows the history to be told as adventures. Fun for the most everyone from the avid junior scientist to the practiced scholar...after reading it I bought a copy for my own library! Flower Hunters is highly recommended!
