Customer Reviews:
GREAT STUFF!
Penn is a very sporty, average, trouble making, lying teenager who has an extremely unusual but beautiful gift - being able to play the piano like an angel! He is taken to the police station a lot and he is the funny boy. His friend Bates is the opposite: he tends to stay out of trouble, can barely lie, isn't very athletic but can't play the piano properly but has a talent for singing - but only when he is drunk! They are the main characters in the book along with Sylvia, Smeeton, the teachers at Beehive Secondary School and many other people. Patrick Pennington (Penn) also has very long hair which terribly irritates everyone. He can't do sports until he cuts it - and has to practice on the piano instead! Will he able to cut his hair in time to keep the trophy for the school?
mean and moody
I read it (as an adult) many years ago and felt that yes, Peyton had created a young hero for every teenage girl to fall in love with! Mean, moody and physically compelling. You hold your breath as tearaway Pat, (who actually doesn't know which he prefers music or football), gets himself into all sorts of appalling scrapes - from fights to breaking the law. I suppose the content's a bit dated now for kids today - early 70s - but still a good read.
K M PEYTON ON TEENAGE LOVE AND ATTITUDE
This is the first in the Pennington trilogy, followed by the Beethoven Medal, and Pennington's Heir. If you love K M Peyton on teenagers this is for you, no horses, music and a teenage boy for all to fall in love with. I've been growing up reading these books for years and they are still fantastic. To really set the scene I recomend Fly by Night and the Team first as they introduce horse mad Ruth who is destined to fall in love with Pennington. But this first book concentrates on Pennington's loutish antics and school life, along side his incredible musical ability.
All the books in this trilogy and worth their weight in gold. A hero for any girl to fall in love with.
