Ok, that is not a very flattering tittle, as it does mean "A big joke".. The point is that publishing 4 books, (fairly expensive on top of that) for delivering what they deliver .. sorry.
"Tricolore" is REALLY not as good as "facon de parler". The books may look nice to look at, BUT gosh, the french inside it is outdated, faulty, and use some sentenses or colloquialisms that I have never used myself, or even have not heard of.
Learning a language means mainly grasping a good basic knowledge of its grammar and learning an accurate and modern vocabulary . well. forget it . I d be amazed if you can manage to use the present tense or the futur tense correctly , while using that textbook.
It may be ok under the direction of a teacher that will correct the mistakes and will make your French a bit more colloquial.. but that s it.
When I show that book to my family, they all had a BIG laugh when they saw the sort of French language the book was presenting.
as we do say. c est n'importe quoi !!!
gardez votre argent et votre courage.. il y a de tres bonnes methodes de francais sur le marche.
Keep your money and your hope.. there are much better french textbooks available than that one.

Great book for school

I have used this book in a school environment and it is great. It has many tasks and starts off at an early level, slowly increasing as you work through the book. This book is best with the accompanying tape as then you can work through the listening excercises. I found the book very useful.
