This was one of my very favourite childhood books (I'm now 42). I typed the title into the search engine, never for a minute believing it could still be in print - my mum must have thrown out my old copy & I really wanted to pass it onto my children. I'm thrilled it is still available - will be ordering my copy shortly..................

My Favourite Childhood Book

At the age of 11 I remember my top Junior class teacher reading this book to us and I was instantly hooked. Alan Garner starts his tale with what would appear to be a simple story about Colin and Susan spending holiday time on a relative's farm, but quickly develops it into an eeire jounery into a world of Wizards, Dwarves and Arthurian Legend. For those of you who are fans of Lord fo the Rings (which I am, although I read this book before I read TLOTR) this is a book which I can highly recommend. Be warned however, for those of you who think that this is merely a childs book be prepared to be scared in a way that you never thought a childs book could scare you. Gripping to the end and still a favourite of mine 13 years after I first read it!
