Customer Reviews:
Bold, Gripping, Entertaining!!!
My friends recommended the book. The cover, I liked, and the draft on the back made me want to read the whole thing at once. Although the story intertwines with the mythological stories of Perseus, it is a gripping story set in a New York City-the most unlikely place where some gods will battle it out with each other.
The book was very gripping-making me reading it constantly during class and at home. The good description and tense moments show the variety in which Rick Riordan writes.
Throughout the book I felt that I was at the scene of the paragraph, which is hard to get in first person writing. When Riordan describes Percy's step-father, I even felt the feeling of Percy whithout being told of it. This is a very hard form of writing, which takes years to achieve.

Rick Riordan is a fantastic writer. His other works with Percy Jackson are also very good.

An incredible read!
The start of a wonderful new series, The Lightning Thief is an incredible adventure telling the tale of a boy who thought he was normal in a world gone mad. It makes you think; I'll just read a bit more. It is an adventurous mystery with a bit of humor thrown in. If you haven't read it, read it now!
the most popular book in my house
I bought this book for my 10 year daughter who loved it sufficiently to encourage her 12 year brother to give it a go. They have both now read all three books. In my daughter's case twice. She even persuaded me to read extracts on holiday to a mixed group of teens and pre-teens - who all have gone on the read the full set. Readily in the grasp of confident young readers with enough twists, turns and dark deeds to keep older children interested. brilliant
EVEN LEMONY SNICKET CAN'T BEAT THIS ONE!!!
This book is the best children's book around at the moment. The plot is gripping and keeps you hanging on to each paragraph. The pace builds up to lightning speed whilst you hang on to your seatbelt, on the greatest rollercoaster ride you will ever take! Lemony Snicket and Harry Potter fans can really get their teeth into this one. This book was a present given on Christmas morning and was completed several hours later, the same day!!! Highly recommended for children age 9 upwards. My daughter cannot wait for Rick Riordan's sequel to Percy Jackson's first adventure!
Eat your heart out Harry Potter
I bought this book for my son's 11th birthday as a kind of stocking filler. He was not impressed! The book hid under his bed for a while but then he read it. He's hooked! He said it was his best birhday present ever, better even than the PSP (some computerised game). He can't wait for the next installment. Thanks Rick. You have turned my boy into a reader!
