You know it makes sense.

Everything that George Orwell wrote was rooted in his down-to-earth style and respect for common decency and common sense. Because of this his political thought was able to develop during an essay or article without ever loosing sight of, and more importantly the attention of, the everyday reader. This is immediately apparent in In Defence of English Cookery. The subject is extremely accessible and familar to us all. Orwell makes a great case for English food (which is great - just think of apple sauce, plum pudding, cream teas, stilton cheese etc) and looks at why English food is given such a bad press, and why we never stick up for our food. Orwell could write about making a cup of tea and it would be interesting. In fact, I seem to remember that he did.
