Kids will love this

I bought my son a book called The Night Pirates (also superb) last Christmas and, since then, he has been ever so slightly obsessed with being a pirate. When I saw this on Amazon, I couldn't resist.
My lad is currently aged 3, but I imagine any mini-Blackbeard from 3 to about 7 or 8 will get on well with this. It is a clever mix of great artwork, humour and plot that is just long enough not to be a chore when read twice through. There is enough here to bring out a wry smile in mum or dad, and plenty to make the kids laugh out loud. I won't give away the plot; suffice it is to say that Mungo brought the whole thing on himself by asking his mum to read the book five times! When mum has had enough and leaves our hero to thumb through the pages himself, he finds that the hero in his bedtime story is also tired out, and in dire need of a holiday and a substitute. It's at that point that bedtime reading becomes a bit more interesting.....
I can highly recommend this book to any parent. After all, any book which features a Purple Berserker Bird deserves a place on the bookshelf!

Not any ordinary Pirate story...

I wasn't sure about buying a Pirate book for my daughter, but having flicked through its pages I was taken by its originality and wit. Great illustrations, and a good story with a twist. I will certainly look out for more books by this author.

Best book ever

I read a lot of books with my children, this is my favourite by far! It is a lovely story, with gorgeous illustrations, and my 4 year old son and I fight to say the words first! I would recommend this to anyone who loves books and reading aloud - it's a must!

Shiver me timbers, a fantastic book for young pirates!

I gave this book to my son as a Christmas present and it has been a joy for both of us. He has me read it again and again... and I don't mind! The illustrations are luscious and he dreams of jumping right into the pages of the book like Mungo. He has learned much pirate terminology from the book... and is thrilled at the end, thinking that this magical adventure is indeed possible. A great book to encourage the love of reading and perfect for the pirate-obsessed crowd!

Swashbuckling seadogs!

I bought this for Christmas for my nephew as he had become obsessed with ships and was delighted that he's enjoyed it so much. The fun plot about a boy jumping into his favourite book to save the day really grabbed his attention and the illustrations make the characters come to life. My nephew has now become a trainee pirate and is busy besieging his father with a cardboard cutlass. Arrrr!
