These are the best children's short stories I have read

These stories are written with a very special talent. They are probably pitched at the 8-10 range, yet I have successfully read them aloud to my 4 6 and 8 year old, the youngest of whom is used to childish picture books and cannot normally listen to full prose. The stories are varied, interesting, and psychologically very real, without any preaching or messages. I would have been happy to read them on my own. I think the secret, or part of the secret, is the excellent quality of the prose. It is sensible, immediate, and beautifully clear, and makes for excellent reading aloud
