This entertaining and humourous book captured the interest of my children from beginning to end.In typical Ahlberg style Mrs Lather is an eccentric comical and larger than life character whose illogical exploits produce more adverse effects than she had first reckoned they might. Whoever heard of a laundry that refused to wash socks? After embarking upon this ludicrous course of action customers then bring other things for Mrs Lather to wash, like pets and even babies! Eventually Mrs Lather realises that washing plain ordinary laundry isn't so bad after all. This has an effective message to the children, that far off fields aren't always greener and at times we're better off sticking to those things we are familiar with.
