I have always found poetry difficult going - I've never really understood it. This book was a revelation. Focussing on the sounds of poetry, the book explains in depth how metre, rhyme, and sounds combine to make poems work. It also contains an excellent anthology. Now I know what iambic pentameter means.

If you had teachers in school who made you hate poetry: Here is your cure!!! This puts poetry into a completely different light, it positively the most exciting theory book I ever read, and I wish more teachers would teach after it!
