Girls adventure story with an Enid Blyton feel to it
|
This was a book with a very simple construction (you knew who the baddies were and you knew who the goodies were) and the story followed the battle of good against evil all the way through.
It very much had the feel of a good old fashioned adventure story that a child could read (with a few grown up bits added in!!).
It was let down by a few major coincidences and chance happens which I thought let the book down as I felt that they made it quite unbelieveable.
The book was too long and could have comfortably been 200 pages shorter but had lots going on and was a reasonable enjoyable read.
Despite it's length I would recommend this book to an infrequent reader who wanted an easy read.

Reasonably Enjoyable Read
|
This is another of Lesley Pearse' enjoyable reads. A young woman's Father goes missing, her Mother later commits suicide, and the young woman, named Charlie, is left to pick up the pieces and unravel the mystery of her Father's disappearance.
Along the way she begins a relationship with a young man. This relationship takes up a large part of the story, as do various other dramas which occur in Charlie's life.
As is always the case with Pearse' novels, there is a heavy emphasis on the theme of survival, and finding the strength to continue in the face of adversity. I'd hazard a guess that's why Pearse' novels are so popular with women, because so many women can relate to struggling on through in spite of hardships.
Overall, a very enjoyable and moreish read.

Faultless

"Charlie" is the second Lesley Pearse novel I have read and if possible was even better than "Never Look Back". Charlie learns through family misfortune that a secure life of your own and people to love you far exceed a rich home devoid of financial worry. This book kept me page-turning without interruption until the very end and I would rate it as one of my favourites. Hoping to read "Camellia" next!
