Inspiring and brillant, how could it ever go out of print?

I too had the same experience as charles.nightingale@btinternet.com - fifty years ago: and I'm still buying it today to give to youngsters who'se imagination I know will be fired up with a friendly fascination for mathematics. A thrilling and inspiring read.

An absolute inspiration of a book

This book changed my life fifty odd years ago. Considering maths to be a dreary collection of dull ritualistic processes I picked up this book in a public library and casually read the first two pages. I immediately borrowed the book and read the rest, and was dazzled by the beauty and strangeness of the subject. I went on to become a mathematician and earn my bread by practicing the subject. It's all here from the infinitesmal to the infinite and its the ideal book to give a fourteen-year old who has even the smallest leanings in this direction. And any adult can read it and get insight into what real maths is - hard sums it ain't!
