Customer Reviews:
What Else Is Being Kept From Us?
What a superb book with outstanding histories about the entire birthplace of code breaking and electronic interception. Excellent pure Excellence.
A definite must-read ...
I first read this report on the NSA (National Security Agency) in 1987 and was so moved by author James Bamford descriptions that I visited Fort Meade, Maryland to verify its existence. As it is a non-fiction work I must admit that it is rather dry reading for the reader used to spy-vs-spy fictional excitement. Nonetheless it is extremely well written and will inform (and shock) the average reader as to the depth (and history) of signal intelligence by the United States Government. It has been rumored that Bamford is working on a sequel. The Puzzle Palace was published in 1983, this is 1999, one can only imagine ...
an interesting book with way too many unnecessary details
hm ... the book is fine - judging by the first 50 pages or so, but it gets boring with too many details, effectively hiding the interesting things.

if you skip the boring pages, it's quite fine.

Excellent!
Taught me more than I wanted to know. Good stuff.
A Little Too Comprehensive
While the book was incredibly in depth, there were too many desciptions of internal positions. However, this IS the only comprehensive book on the NSA. If you are curious, then check it out. Due to the fact that the NSA releases so little material, interesting information was difficult to come by. Overall a slow but exacting read.
