Customer Reviews:
The reference
The reference for courses and professional trading. Some might argue over minor mathematical details - but this is what all the derivatives traders use. Very well written and very thorough.
Fantastic
This is a fantastic book. It saw me through a very challenging Finance masters programme. The explanations are clear and the examples are easily followed. It is fairly current and has good practical applications.

Now, in my professional life, it is one of the books sitting on my desk. I use it regularly and have to sometimes fight colleagues to get it back!

Enjoy!
A first class book.
One of the perls in my collection. Without doubt, everything that need to be known. Each chapter is organized as a masterclass: a theorical description, an explanation and some examples. I had few other books on the same subject (9) and I sold them because this is the best and the rest is repetition. I combine this with Stochastics Calculus and Financial Applications (ISBN: 0387950168) which is more academic (theorical, plenty of lovely formulas). A must combination in derivatives and futures. See my other reccomendations for English for foreigns, Latin, Maths, Medicine and Economics.
Written with rare clarity.
This book ('Hull') is an excellent introduction and guide to derivatives. It's also a good reference - there's enough information so that you probably won't feel you need to buy another, deeper book.

The emphasis is on a description of the various products, as well as how to price them. The emphasis stays on the theory of pricing, rather than delving right down into computer algorithms, so if you need to write derivatives software, I recommend the excellent 'C++ Design Patterns and Derivatives Pricing' by Mark Joshi - but read this book first.

This should definitely be your first book on derivatives. Only after reading several other books on derivatives, after first reading 'Hull', did I realise how clear his book is, and how some other authors manage to make things so confusing.

Buy it, learn it, love it
THE definitive derivatives introduction - everyone in the industry has read and they will expect you to have done the same. Ten years ago nothing could touch it for its breadth and depth of coverage. In recent times its position as the best has come under attack from a number of pretenders to the crown (probably Wilmott most notably) but in my opinion it still holds the title.
