Magnificent read

What a truly wonderful book - so many memories I can relate to of Bristol and childhood toys etc! I think Susan and I shared the same bedroom wallpaper too!! lol
Such a tragic and moving tale - and such an insight into the mind of a child in her young years - one poor child not fully understanding what is going on around her.
I couldn't put this book down!

Just One More Day by Susan Lewis
|

This was my first Susan Lewis and I loved it. It was a tragic and heartbreaking true story and the way Susan Lewis has written it from a child's point of view, it has helped me to understand the way my own children could perceive things that we do or say. A MUST read!

...so far not enjoying this book

I am having a hard time with this book - although admittedly I am only a quarter of the way through - I am having to force myself to continue. It is hard to get in to - the book goes alternately from Eddress (mother) and Susan (daughter) and Susan writes her sections as if she was still a nine year old. Eddress' sections are driving me crazy as they are all written in her way of talking "I put me coat on...made meself a cuppa tea..." and lots of sentences with "if the truth be known" and "innit" included repetitively, which I personally find irritating, although I appreciate that Susan no doubt wants to depict her mother as she actually was. Real
|
This book showed such a real view of life as a child and a mother struggling with cancer.
The style Susan has written it is truly unique. How difficult it must be to capture the writing as if a child had written it. Very well done.
It took me a while to read this book because I didn't have the time to sit down properly and get into it which is what I think you should do with this book.
It's very touching especially at the end when Susan doesn't understand that her mum is gone and not coming back. But how like a nine year old that is like.
A definite recommendation if you want to read something real
