Toss a coin..and you may have the answer...

The Broker... After having read all the reviews on Amazon, I was a lil unsure if I wanted to pick this one upp. Bumped into a good bargain at the book section in a supermarket and I must say it wasnt that bad after all. Definitely not boring and I guess after reading the synopsis at the back of the book (Or in websites), you read it just to have one question answered...Does he Live or does he Die...And that will really help you get through to the end..With no problems whatsoever. Definitely not his best, but I would say reasonably compelling..

Awful - avoid

Do yourself a favour - do not buy this book
I have never (that I can remember) written a review for a book, but the moment I finished this one I promised myself I would.
The storyline was poor and predictable - I finished the book and could not quite believe that was it. Little substance, slow, and became tedious with the constant Italian language intermissions (i.e. the book would half in size if you removed the constant Italian writing which frankly, added nothing to the story and was of little relevance. I agree with a previous reviewer in that Grisham became 'obsessed' with the Italian language whilst researching the book and lost all focus).
Had this been Grisham's first book, I very much doubt many of us would have ever heard of the guy.

A good read
|
John Grisham is one of the most popular writers in America and although his reputation is built on writing about courtroom dramas he can well and truly write about other subjects and make it enjoyable to read. The Broker is quite a page turner and will keep you asking the obvious question - what happens next? A lot of people have not found this book to their liking but if you are up for a bit of easy reading and are familiar with Grisham's style of writing, then this will not disappoint.
The story begins with an unexpected presidential pardon for the main character - the Broker. The main motive to pardon the Broker is to set him up as bait and watch which intelligence agency would kill him first to protect their secrets. Since the CIA will not allow this to happen on American soil, the Broker is sent off to Italy totally oblivious about the real reasons for this move. Blinded from the truth, the Broker must rely on his instincts in order to survive the fate that awaits him. Read the book to find out what happens next.
This book was fast paced except for a bit in the middle. It could have perhaps bettered by writing more about the Broker's history and how he came to be the man he had become. Overall though, this was a fun read and is best enjoyed if you approach it with an open mind without over analyzing the plot. The story is entirely fictional and is best treated as such.

Hopeless Thriller

Thriller is not John's league and should stay away from it. Lot many flaws. Though can be a good tourist guide who is planning to visit Bologna for the first time.
