Average autobiography

I did learn a lot about Simon Cowell in this book. His background was quite privileged, but he worked his way up in an assortment of jobs until he got his break as an A & R man. Career wise he has done a lot more than people have credited him for (although some acts he is responsible for were not very credible...!). He takes us through the early days of Pop Idol and pulls no punches when he states, quite clearly, acts he think will make it and those that don't. Unfortunately the book was written towards the end of Pop Idol 2, so we already know which of his predictions have come true! Another thing that lets this book down for me is the last two chapters, which are all advice for wannabe pop stars on how to handle auditions and fame. This is largely irrelevant for me and, I expect for, a large number of people who maybe interested in Cowell's work and/or just enjoy a good autobiography. Sadly, this won't be one of the best you have read.

If you enjoy watching Simon Cowell on Pop Idol you will love this book,I couldn't put it down,it took me 4 hours to read .It was interesting to read how hard he has had to work to get where he is and also what a tough place the music and television is to work in.The book left me wanting more in the way where you want to meet him. I also recommend another book "He Never Called Again."

Truly Disappointing

If like me you wanted to know what the driving force behind the author is then this is not the book for you. Its more how to become a pop star then who Simon Cowell is. If you watched the series you know it all. This book reveals nothing other than how he got into Show Biz.

If you have a thing for Simon Cowell then read this book! Really interesting although would of preferred more background on the man himself than Pop Idol and American Idol. But a real page turner from start to finish. His arrogance and rudeness comes thru and it just makes him seem more attractive. I think it's more honesty than rudeness. Buy it!!

I don't mean to be rude but....

This is a really lazy read and a good poolside book for anyone who doesn't want to think or concentrate too hard. It has large print and not too many pages. It highlights his childhood, early difficulties in finding work and the way he worked his way to the top. His opinions on Pop and American Idol and advice for future artists. Simon Cowell could have gone into much more detail rather than, I felt, skim over most of his earlier life which was interesting and enjoyable. However it's worth reading if you are a Cowell fan and it was worth buying as it's the first 'adult' book my eleven year old daughter has shown any interest in reading.
