Before i start I think you should know that the first 5 days are the hardest but then after that its well easy as you never feel hungry!
I've done diets before - calorie-controlled, low-fat - you name them i've done it. None worked! I do this sceptical that this will work too but then i go from 24st to 20st in 2 months! I have everyday people around me starting to be concerned and thinking stupid things like am i starving myself?
I'm also having to ask my mum if she can take in my clothes !
The thing i love about this diet is that it blows to pieces the so-called 'food-pyramid' and 'way we should eat'. Secondly, (after the first 5 days) you never feel hungy - on calorie-controlled & low-fat diets you are literally STARVING!
Some of my friends and other family members, have all lost weight on the diet - do it you won't regret it! You see you're losing weight so you stay on it which is easy to do as you never feel hungry.
Just remember that your coffees, cokes and drinks all have carbs in them too! Good Luck !

I read this book twice before I started the diet and researched the theory of low carbing on the internet. I was very keen to start and thought I had found an answer to all my (weight related) problems. However, I am sorry to say that this diet at the carb levels suggested made me feel very unwell. I found the book and theory very interesting. The book was well written and explained in sufficent layman's terms for me to understand what it's all about and, even now, I still agree with the diet in principle, but think that Dr Atkins took the low carb level too far! I have since read other low carb books and have found them to be a lot more "balanced" than this one. The best was "Eat Fat Get Thin" by Barry Groves (read my review on Amazon UK if you are interested). I stuck to this diet and lost all my excess weight, and found that having the odd slice of toast with your breakfast, cheese with FRUIT for lunch or snacks and plenty of veg, not only kept me healthy, but ensured I was able to stick to this type of eating at all. No doubt some people will criticise this review and say I had not read Dr Atkins' book properly, did not realise the 20g carb level was just the initial phase etc., but I can assure you I read this book VERY carefully and stuck to the rules impeccably. If you are interested in losing your weight in a steady and comfortable way, please read the other - it's so much more balanced and I can say from my experience it works. However you choose to tackle your problem, I wish you good luck and even better health!

Don't worry about the sceptics - this works. I have several doctor friends who do it - including a cardiologist. Both me and my husband have done it for over a year. We have lowered our cholesterol levels and feel much better. And that's while eating mainly foods that other diets tell you to avoid; e.g. eggs, cream, butter, cheese, meat, nuts etc. The book is very easy to understand and covers just about every area of health. There are a lot of recipies as well.

losing weight cannot be achieved through eating solid fat, the way to lose weight is through exercise, i know, i tried this diet, the bad breath is horrible, you feel lethargic and its SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO bad for you......dont do it!

Don't believe the neagtive press

After all the negative press this diet has been getting i feel obliged to say something. This book saved my life, simple. I was 10 stones overweight and the doctor told me i probably had a year to live. I had tried everything you can imagine, but through lack of willpower or what i just couldnt stick to any. As the last throw of the dice my doctor recommended i buy this book and stick to the diet totally. I cannot emphasise enough how much this book has altered my life. After just 9 months i lost 6.5 stones and feel sooooo much more alive! The problem with low fat/high carb diets is they contain so much sugar. This was what caused me to keep giving in to temptations, its what made me lathargic and fatigued. There are people who claim the Atkins diet is unhealthy. The question i ask to these people is what is more unhealthy? Carrying around a mass of extra weight, your blood filled with sugar and rock bottom self confidence, or eating healthy meat and vegetables? I really do not see how people can say the diet is unhealthy? What is unhealthy about meat and vegetables? So in coclusion i URGE you, please give this diet a try. You will not believe the difference it makes to your life, and i am so passionate about this because it saved my life.
