A tour de force
|
For those with a serious interest in the history and development of angling as a sport from pre-history to the present day, together with fascinating chapters on all coarse and game fish to be caught in the UK, this is the book you need.
Hugh and Fred have distilled their lifetime of knowledge and experience into a tour de force that is still, I have found, to be beaten. This is not an instructional 'how to fish' manual but rather a comprehensive examination of the roots of angling, how equipment has developed and the natural history of our quarry, complete with excellent photos. There is even a selection of recipes for each fish, many dating back to a time when the culinary quality of the catch was as important as the sport.
In addition to the wealth of seriously useful and interesting content (and some fascinating trivia) this book has the great merit of being well written and easy to dip into in a quiet moment.
Highly recommended for anyone seeking a serious but enjoyable overview of all aspects of our sport.
