MIKE MEYERS' MCSE PASSPORT

ALTHOUGH I AM ONLY JUST ONTO THE 3RD CHAPTER I AM VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE WAY THIS BOOK IS DIRECTED. AS A NEWBIE TO IT THE BOOKS I WAS SUPPLIED WITH FOR MY COURSE ARE A LITTLE CONFUSING AIMED MORE AT THE IT PROFFESSIONAL THAN NEWCOMER, SO THIS BOOK IS QUITE REFRESHING IN THE FACT IT DOESNT USE TO MUCH TECH SPEAK AND DOESNT PRATTLE ON TOO MUCH. IT TELLS YOU WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW AND THATS IT! I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT ESPECIALLY FOR THE RELATIVE NEWBIES TO IT AND MICROSOFT EXAMS.

A great place to start

The book is a very easy read with smooth flowing dialogue and it introduces you to the new concepts within Microsoft’s new environment in a clear and friendly manner. I think this book would be an ideal starting point for anyone of any level to start preparing for the new certification path (MCP, MCSA & MCSE). This was the first Mike Meyers book I have used as a study guide and unlike the Coriolis Group publications there is no preamble on the joys of test taking, you are into the lesson within the first five pages, I didn't put the book down until I had read it cover to cover. A thoroughly enjoyable read covering the 70-270 exam prerequisites step for step and providing a solid foundation for learning to operate and support XP, this book alone will not prepare you for the Microsoft way of taking exams, the questions in the book are very friendly and not really to exam spec (there is a wealth of websites with sample questions to help with that!) Anyone with experience of 70-210 (2K Pro) or 70-215 (2K Server) will find this an easy exam, there are many similarities in the questions but there is a wealth of new features to learn for XP. I used this book to prepare for the 70-270 MCP exam. A thorough read will give you most of what you need to pass the exam. No book can however prepare for Microsoft tricky questions so I found practice questions from other sources were necessary. The questions included at the end of each chapter are not to the standard of the exam, i.e. there are too clear and don't try to trick you. A good thing is the exam practice on the CD which give a good practice even if not as hard as the real exam. All together a good book for the first stage of your exam preparation.
