Customer Reviews:
"Dream Guardians" series book 1
They live with one fundamental rule; "Beware of the Key that turns the lock". Captain Aidan Cross is the only Dream Guardian that is beginning to believe this mythical Key does not exist; a human capable of releasing the Nightmares that plague humanity. These shadowy creatures which feed on a human's greatest fears whilst the mortal wavers between the Twilight and deep sleep are the reason for Aidan's existence. Part of an elite guard Aidan and his fellow warriors have two designated tasks; to protect humans when they are in the Twilight and to find the Key and destroy it.

A renowned warrior and highly skilled lover, Aidan is certainly jaded and begins to resent the fact the human women he intimately engages with during their sleep never actually see him; instead in their dreams he becomes the image of their fantasies. Then Aidan is assigned to Lyssa Bates; a woman capable of keeping Guardians out of her sleep. As this is a potential sign she may be the Key, Aidan is tasked to discover if she shows any further abilities and if so, eliminate her. Instead this immortal warrior finds himself falling in love for the first time with a woman who sees him as he truly is; a woman possibly destined to destroy both their worlds.

Veterinarian Lyssa has suffered a life time of inexplicable illness, she can't stop sleeping yet remains constantly tired; symptoms her doctors are unable to explain. Again falling asleep, Lyssa is intrigued by a lilting brogue that requests entry into her dark dreams; intrigued enough to let a stranger in and finds herself encountering her fantasy man. Aidan and Lyssa waste no time in getting hot and heavy in her dreams, and for the first time in months, Lyssa awakens refreshed and with an almost forgotten energy level. Yet while she is unable to remember her dream time with Aidan, he remains very much affected; to the point he defies the Elders of his world and travels to the human world to protect Lyssa. Now in her world he has to convince Lyssa they not only know each other intimately (Lyssa certainly can't deny her body recognises his touch) but she's also marked for death by his people. Although Aidan cannot deny Lyssa shows all the traits associated with the mythical Key, he cannot imagine the sincere, caring woman he has quickly fallen in love with endangering anyone.

"Pleasure of the Night" is explicitly hot in places as Aidan and Lyssa's relationship deepens; whilst the plot line thoroughly engages the reader as the pair try to untangle a prophecy and uncover the truths hidden from them. There's also plenty of action and drama, some significant issues which remain unresolved, further juicy secrets which have yet to be uncovered and a good scope of secondary characters which I'm sure will be expanded upon in future works. Book one in SD's "Dream Guardians" is an excellent beginning to a seriously steamy fantasy romance series and I'm now about to eagerly read its sequel "Heat of the Night"; the story of Connor (Aidan's best friend and fellow Dream Guardian) and Stacey (Lyssa's single mum receptionist).
