I have never cried so much, laughed so much or felt so much sorrow and sympathy while reading a book. One moment I was crying, the next, laughing through my tears. I couldn't put it down. How throughout the whole book it kept relating back to the smallest things was heart renching, especially her life with Gerry. Such a mixture of emotions and such an inspiring book to read. It really brought home how important it is to live life 'one letter at a time'. I'd recommend this book to anyone. Cecelia Ahern is an amazing writer and I cannot wait to start reading another one of her books. Absolutely amazing

Loved it!

I bought it after seeing the film and it is so much better. I couldnt' believe how different it was, the character of Holly was much nicer and Daniel was also completely different to how he was portrayed in the movie. My advice is read the book first before you see the film and you will appreicate the story so much more.

Don't waste your time

I had to stop reading this book after persevering for about 200 pages, because I just couldn't "get into it". It was slow, dull and boring and didn't manage to draw in my interest at all. I didn't develop empathy for any of the characters and neither was I interested. For something that promises 500 pages of reading, most of it was packed with episodes from everyday life, where nothing much seemed to be happening. I found myself glazing over at times and having to re-read pages. The length could easily have been cut down considerably. By the time I abandoned reading the book, I couldn't care less what the other letters contained. I had picked the book up as the concept was good, but it was sadly let down by its execution.

The Perfect Recipe for a Perfect Read
|
I bought this book following threats from close friends and family if I didn't atleast give it a fair shot, being the typical cynic where all ''Chick Lit/Rom Com'' books are concerned, I couldnt have been more pleasently surprised...
This book, like many have said, is one of those few which you pick up and find it to be instantly unputdownable. From the very first page, Cecilia Ahern writes with a clever combination of iresistable both wit and feeling, which continues throughout the book.
Holly and Gerry were childhood sweethearts, destined to be together from the very start. Married at the tender age of 19, and living a contented married life together - yet their perfect world is cruelly torn apart by Gerry's untimely death. Through the help and support of Holly's friends and family, and a box of letters left to her from Gerry, guiding her through life when he is gone, Holly strives for a new life - with all the old memories.
This is a spectacular book that will make you laugh till your sides ache, and cry till your eyes hurt. Ahern has written with true feeling, resulting in one of the most amazing books I have read in a very, very long time. Perfect.
