Customer Reviews:
Fascinating, uplifting and ultimately very poignant
A beautifully put together biography of an extraordinary and genuine one off. Does justice to his - and Peter Taylor's - phenomenal achievements while not shying away from the darker side of Clough's nature. Thanks you Duncan Hamilton for the best book yet on Clough's time at Forest.
first class book
This is a must read for any football fan and gives an insight into one of the games true legends. From the glory days to the dark days, this book has it all,the sad irony being that cloughie used to get giant bottles of bells whisky for his many 'manager of the month' awards....the same stuff that ruined him. R.I.P BRIAN CLOUGH,SIR BILL NICHOLSON,SHANKLEY...THEY DONT MAKE THEM LIKE THEY USED TO.
informative
i've read a few books over the years relating to the professional game and this is one of the more cerebral.a captivating read and a real insight in to the mind of 'Cloughie.'
One of the best books in the sport genre i've ever read!
Fantastic football biography
I think great football books are few and far between but this is one of them, up there with Football Against the Enemy by Simon Kuper, the Lee Chapman and Tony Adams autobiographies, a classically indiscreet Frank Worthington book, and of course, Peter Bearsdley: My Story - a giant amongst football books.

I am not a Forest fan, but I do remember them at their peak, I also remember travelling to see Forest lose a game at Crystal Palace with a pair of Forest fans in their final season in the top flight before relegation - too a good a team to go down (with players like Roy Keane in the side). And I remember my last glimpse of the man from the back of the terrace, his face an interesting shade of claret-red even from 150 yards away. Clough always seemed to be a compelling, articulate and infuriating character and this book is fascinating. Hamilton presents a man who could be the classic `Big Head' but also rather fragile. A truly unique figure, who must have been fun and terrifying to be around.

It is even more interesting because it does not tread the traditional road of analysing the man's career season by season. And given Clough's ability to come out with very cutting but funny comments, it is good to see that Hamilton quotes him liberally. It should be the kind of book that would also appeal to those who only have a passing interest in the game, but for its core readership, football fans of every club, it is highly recommmended. It is a superb antidote to the boredom of over-paid, over-televised fare that is offered today.

Leaps and bounds ahead of other sports books. Great stuff.
Superb
Brian Clough was such a character and Duncan Hamilton was one of the few to get really close to him to see past the green jumper and bravado. A cracking read. One of the best books on Cloughie around. Go out and get it.
