Don't bother with this book, instead read her first (which was great!) This book has no "new" information, has very little, if anything to do with being a true Yummy Mummy (as explained in her first book) and borders on crude with her use of expletives to try and make uninteresting dialogue "yummy". Also, get an editor, as there were so many grammatical mistakes I feel like I deserve money back off the 12.99 price tag. Such a shame that all the wit, great writing style, and ability to make the reader laugh were lost on this one. Again, her first book was fantastic. Try again for a better third?
Mostly great, though verges on smug and irritating at times
I mostly loved this book.I really did.I totally related to much of what Liz said, particularly the section on marriage which I found reassuringly honest.
And it was great to know that I'm not the only mother who forgets to give her kids pocket money.

However I just found that a slightly patronising "if you don't do it my way then you're a bad parent" tone crept into the text at times. She does set the bar very high in terms of her parenting standards and it would be easy for someone to read this and come away feeling like a wee bit of a failure in comparison to Liz. I found her assertion that those who use the TV as a babysitter so they can go and phone their best mate in peace are being neglectful slightly over the top - but in the main I enjoyed the book and found many parts of it very helpful and motivating.
Just Read It!
Loved the Ultimate Survival Guide and I'm still here so it must have worked!

Couldn't read it in one go as it's a tome, but is great as a Family style Encyclopedia of knowledge, have dipped in and out of it so much over the past few weeks!

What is unique about it is that it deals with topics as if going round the rooms in your house, eg dealing with relationships in the bedroom!!

Worth adding to your collection.
Essential reading - yummy or not
Liz Fraser's books have an uncanny way of coming out just as I need them. The first one coincided with our first arrival and this one has come out just in time to prepare me for all hell breaking loose with number two.

This is more than a sequel but a comprehensive guide to all aspects of family life. If you're thinking of embarking on kids or are already on that rollercoaster and can't get off then Liz Fraser will have all manner of ideas to make it seem that bit smoother. Even if you keep screaming and it just keeps getting faster then you will find plenty of plain old commiseration for the stomach-churning side of things.

The jokes are never far away and though the book runs to over 400 pages it is an extremely easy read, with well defined sections on every aspect of family life based around the different rooms of the house. If, like me, you have never even heard of 'playdates' or thought about what the current rate is for what to put in a 'going home' bag after a party, then this will be your reference book for the answers.

Moreover, the book will also prepare you for the day when little Johnny comes home with reports of little Jimmy who has his own TV, computer, video, car, bachelor pad and can stay up as late as he wants every day eating crisps and chocolate, snorting cocaine, etc.

In my experience mums rarely feel remotely yummy but this book has given me some good ideas about how to be mummy without getting glummy. Roll on number two, now I'm ready to handle anything you can throw at me.
The best book on family life ever!
In spite of the huge overload of Yummy Mummy's books in store at the moment - this is absolutely the true thing! Liz Fraser portrayal of family life is hilarious and so true. I loved Liz Fraser's first book, but this is even better. Every single mum and dad in the world should have a book like this in their homes!
