Extremely disappointing after the GI diet books!
|
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the science behind GL makes a lot more sense than that behind GI, but this book was thoroughly disappointing. It gave some information on the GL which was good, but so patronising it made me want to close it immediately.
Even more disappointing was the selection of recipes, if you can even call them that. For example, fruity porridge: porridge, dried fruit and nuts - something even a three year old could have guessed would be a good combination and therefore not really a recipe at all.
The menus were completely unrealistic, especially after I was told time and time again that I would never go hungry on the diet - I'm sorry, but having a bowl of vegetable soup for lunch and an afternoon snack of a small piece of cheese is ridiculous. That is not, in my opinion, healthy eating.
Finally, what made me REALLY regret buying the book was the constant advertising for the authors' GL website which, guess what, you have to pay for to access, as if buying the book wasn't enough.
Overall, I would highly recommend any of the GI books over this. Less patronising, healthier menu suggestions, and actual recipes without the constant pushing you to pay extra for a website which I'm sure is not that much more useful (especially when there's tonnes of free resources on GI and GL online!).

Urban Living
|
|
This book is an excellent and easy-to-use guide when wishing to avoid the diet and diet-related health pitfalls of a busy urban lifestyle. Being able to combine a feeling of doing my body 'good' while enjoying my food has been a great bonus. Equally importantly, it is easy to grasp and being more of a life-style approach (as opposed to a weight-loss diet program) does not appear boringly regimental or 'lecturing'. The GL approach has allowed me to secure more energy - both mental and physical - and both crucial for me during long hours of work in the City - this guide is a valuable companion when negotiating a usually (too!) hectic schedule.

Another fantastic book from diet freedom

A simple, easy and practical book to use. Which has been the case with all the books from Diet Freedom. Using the books inconjunction with the web site has just enhanced the experience of loosing weight and feeling great.

I have tried most diets, Atkins was good to start with but I found it unhealthy. The GL has helped me understand food and what is good for me and best of all I never feel hungry. Happy eating.

Fantastic, life changing!
|
This is the 4th book from this team (I don't think I've missed any!) and it is a great summary of the GL in one easy read. Some people make it so darn complicated - but these guys KISS! Simple and easy, and I for one have found it a real life changer.
Losing weight has never been easy, I've been a 'bad dieter' for many years, jumping on every passing bandwagon to only fleeting success and subsequent regain. However since finding The GL Diet, the first one these guys wrote, that completely changed, and I am nearly at my target weight. My mood is vastly improved, I love exercise, my energy levels are through the roof and food is great! If you are new to the GL I would say get this book and the cookbook, perfect partners. I am also a member of the dietfreedom.co.uk online club which works very well for me as a support to all I have learned in the books.
But back to this book - it's great, simple, easy and all the recipes can be cooked or thrown together in pretty much 10 minutes or less - that's my kind of book y'all! none of us have much time in the day, so big thanks for that. If you want complicated diet-babble that takes four reads to digest and has you weighing and counting everything, then go elsewhere!! If you want simple easy guidance, written in a friendly style, a quick read, easy reference, based on that proven science, and a lifestyle that's really easy to adapt to - then get this book!! X Claire
