A lovely book for young children

My daughter loved this book as a toddler and now as a 6 year-old she is revisiting it as a book she can read herself. I couldn't disagree more with the reviewer that gave this book one star and said she'd hidden it. It takes all sorts of people to make up this world and some people are not overly ambitious or driven purely by success - nothing wrong with that. Lettice the Rabbit had a dream to be a ballet dancer - she tried it - enjoyed it - and then having done so, she returned to her home and family and realised that that was where she was happiest. The world is not always about being the best, sometimes it's about trying new things and then realising that what you love is what you already have - a home and family. It's also about realising how lucky you are to have these simple everyday things. I can't believe the previous reviewer has is making so much out of what is, essentially, a very sweet book for young children. Lettice is a lovely story, ideal for bedtime, with simple and pretty illustrations. My daughter loves this book and I'm sure she is not alone.

The pictures look great which is part of the reason why I bought this book, but the ending is appauling, basically telling children not to strive to achieve anything, that the family doesn't support you if you do try and its much better just staying put. How this story line got published I do not know. I have hidden the book.
