Worthy of the hype

Fear and Loathing is deservedly iconic. Thompson has a cadence that manages to recreate a time and place with brilliant realism, all the while warping that time and place through a drug-induced haze. For all the manic episodes and non-sequiters in the dialogue, there is a strange lucidity at the core of Fear and Loathing, and there's nothing preventing the squarest of people from 'getting it'. As an education in a point of view, this is a triumph. As a wild ride with characters you can't help but love, its nothing short of a masterpiece.

I bought this book at an airport so I could read it on holiday I had enjoyed the film immensley and thought that I would last me at least half of my trip away. Not so!!! This book took a day and a half to read because it really was that good, you are taken kicking and screaming into the wirlwind lives of the characters featured in this book. I cannot even begin to describe how much I enjoyed reading it. Fear and loathing is peice of literary genius and I'm just upset that it wasn't longer. I have read many books in my short time around and I know that nothing I say here will make you enjoy something more, just go and buy it and make yourself comfortable- it's going to be one hell of a ride!!!
