Easy to use, fairly comprehensive but lacks pronunciations

This dictionary is aimed at Swedes learning English more so than at English-speakers learning Swedish. As a result, the pronunciations of Swedish words are not given, but the pronunciations of the English words are. There is a section at the rear devoted to English translations of phrases Swedes may need when travelling in English-speaking countries, but no equivalent for the English-speaker in Sweden. It is fairly comprehensive and easy to use, but the lack of Swedish pronunciations is a big drawback. The gender and plural endings are given for Swedish words, which is obviously useful. If you can find a Swedish-English dictionary which gives Swedish pronunciations, it would probably be better to buy it. If you can't obtain such a thing, this will be an acceptable alternative.

Valuable resource for a new breed of customer

The Swedish language seems to have really taken off on the international stage, and, with most courses focussing on grammar, people really need a hand with raw vocab. Enter the Collins Gem offering. THE dictionary for the beginner, with more vocab than you will ever need. Trust me, you'll be throwing out an Advanced Swedish course [having finished it :) ] before you discard this book.

What can I say? It's a bilingual dictionary, and rather a good one at that. Incidentally, this dictionary is part of the renowned Collins Gem family, so you can buy assured that you are getting the best. Like all Collins dictionaries, it packs more between its covers than you would ever guess on first inspection, and, because it's a Gem dictionary, it's conveniently portable too. Clearly laid out, comprehensive, and offering that bit more through a grammar summary - what else d'ya need?
