I have found this book really interesting in it's description of life in China over 100 years. I will most certainly read it again.

Hard reading but worth it
|
I bought this book with a view to reading more diverse literature than the "chick lit" that i am used to . . .and i wasnt disappointed. The only reason i dont give this book 5 stars is that i found it very heavy and difficult to read in places. However, the way that Jung Chang draws on her family history and writes in so much detail is amazing and i found the book both enlightening and a fantastic read. I have recommended it to anyone looking for a good book to get their teeth into. Excellent and well worth the money i paid for it!

Wild Swans is now available in China

I loaned the book to a Chinese student. "I read it twice," she told me. A handful of copies of Wild Swans are available in Chinese cities. Chinese students are very interested.

Essential reading
|
I first read this book fifteen years ago and have re-read it many times since. This excellent biography and autobiography of three generations of women of China, peppered with the fraught history of 20th century China is brilliantly written.
It does not make for easy reading, but it will teach you a little of China's history, which we are certainly not taught about at school.
Simply womderful

What can I say?? I put off reading this book for a long long time as I thought it was going to be more focussed on the female reader(my mother sister and girlfriend had all read it before me so it was out of stubborness really :/). That said, as soon as I got around to reading it I just couldnt put it down. An absolutely amazing read, a totally engrossing ride through the changing faces of China, and the suffering of her people, which really touches your heart. I would recommend this book to everyone and thank those that pushed me to read it.
